Ed Miller's new CD, Lyrics of Gold, is now available for order.
To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth in January 1759, Ed has recorded 16 of the almost 300 songs attributed to Scotland's "National bard." Although largely known as a poet, Burns spent the last few years of his short life collecting, refurbishing and writing songs. His folklorist's appreciation of Scots speech, allied with his wonderful ear for tunes, led one writer to describe his songs as "lyrics of gold crafted from traditional ore" - hence the CD title.
Beautifully produced and played on by Rich Brotherton, the CD also features the wonderfully-varied talents of Brian McNeill on fiddle & concertina, John Taylor on fiddle, E.J.Jones on various pipes and whistles, plus the lovely voice of Karine Polwart and even the pedal steel of Marty Muse, a combination that makes Burns' songs seem as fresh as if they were written yesterday.
The songs on the CD are : Rigs o' Barley, Ae Fond Kiss, Braw Lads o' Gala Water, Hey Ca' Thro',
The Silver Tassie, Green Grow the Rashes O, Comin' thro' the Rye, Aye Waukin' O, McPherson's Farewell,
The De'il's awa wi' the Exciseman, Ca the Yowes, The Collier Laddie, The Lea-Rig, My Love Is Like a Red Red Rose, A Man's a Man and Auld Lang Syne.
